1. It is widely believed that Mount Nebo in Jordan is the burial place of Moses.


2. One of the Seven Wonders of the World, the city of Petra was literally carved into rock 2000 years ago. It was only in the 19th century that the Western world got to know of it. This city has to be entered through a narrow gorge that is only 1.25 km wide.


3. John the Baptist is known to have been imprisoned in a palace named Mukawir, which is located just south of Madaba.

 

4. The Jodanians believe that praising children excessively can invite bad luck and is generally avoided.


5. In ancient times, Jordan used to be a segment of the Fertile Crescent which was the crescent-shaped region that included fertile land in an otherwise arid part of the globe.


6. The Dead Sea or the Salt Lake in Jordan is the earth’s lowest point and lies 402 meters below mean sea level. It has one of the most spiritual and breathtaking landscapes on the planet.

9. The Jordanian capital, Amman is unique in that it was originally constructed across seven hills also known as “jabals”. The city now spans 19 of them. It has no “East side” or “West side”. Directions are given based on “Jabals”.

10. Almost every single building in Amman is made of stone or concrete and clad with thin, white limestone slabs. Thus there really are no landmarks and every building looks almost identical.
